Fears taxi driver worked for nine days infected with coronavirus

Sydneysiders have been warned after a taxi driver with coronavirus worked for nine days while potentially infectious.

The revelation comes as two new infections were confirmed in NSW on Sunday. One case was detected in an overseas traveller in hotel quarantine while the other was believed to be locally acquired at Liverpool Hospital.

The state also recorded its first COVID-19 death in more than a month after a man in his 70s linked to the Sydney CBD cluster died.

Health officials are also warning anyone who may have taken a taxi in Western and South-Western Sydney from September 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested if needed.

NSW Health issued the statement in particularly to residents in Moorebank, Bankstown, Chipping Norton, Liverpool, Lidcombe, Warwick Farm and Milperra.

The taxi driver had installed the COVIDSafe App so a team is tracing any potential contacts.

Anyone who has visited these locations for at least one hour are also urged to immediately get tested and isolate:

  • Campbelltown Golf Club, Glen Alpine – 16 September, 2pm-4.30pm

  • Milton Ulladulla Ex Servos Club – 12 September, 2pm-6.15pm

  • Carlo’s Italian Restaurante Bar & Seafood, Ulladulla – 12 September, 8pm-9.30pm

  • Bannisters Pavilion Rooftop Bar & Grill, Mollymook – 13 September, 12.30pm-2.15pm

  • Mama Wok, MacArthur Square Campbelltown 9 September 1.30pm-2.30pm

Anyone who visited the Picnic Point Bowling Club on September 18 from 3pm to 6pm, the Campbelltown Golf Club course Glen Alpine on September 16 from 9.30am to 2pm, or Wray St Oyster Shed Batemans Bay on September 12 from 12pm to 1pm is considered a casual contact and should monitor themselves for symptoms.
