‘Chief product tester’: Company posts X-rated job ad

Wanted: a chief product tester. It’s a part-time role, you can work from home, it pays $40 an hour (which translates to an annual salary of $80,000); and the best part? No experience needed.

There’s seriously no catch – as long as the product you’re comfortable testing are sex toys.

Sexual wellness and sex toy start-up Normal has posted a job ad on Seek that, well, starts off fairly… normal.

According to the ad, the chief product tester would be working with the company’s product development team, its founder and its marketing team to “ensure all of our present and future devices reach our incredibly high standards”.

The individual would be testing products for “texture, strength, vibration quality”.

“We would welcome your most creative suggestions and ideas for how to make a sex toy more appealing to people like you,” the job ad reads.

The job doesn’t call for any experience, but it does mention two things that would help you succeed in the job, or make it easier.

“Actually, having confidence expressing yourself on a range of topics would be helpful,” the job ad reads.

“Also, an email account and a bedroom with a degree of privacy.”

The company is looking for someone with great attention to detail, and a passion for improving products – ”you’re never satisfied, even when you’re satisfied”.

Communication skills will get you brownie points, too. “You know how to take and give feedback, especially about the awkward stuff.”

Keen candidates will need to answer the following three questions in 100 words or less about why they would make a great product tester; a time they made a suggestion for improvement and how it turned out; and what sexual wellness means to them.

And if your responses are entertaining, they might not keep that to themselves.

“Without publishing identifying or personal details, Normal may seek permission from applicants to share particularly funny or awesome excerpts with the world.

“As with all things sexuality-related, consent is critical! So no pressure - just if you’re keen.”
