No. 1 ranked Canadian prospect Enoch Boakye headed to Michigan State

Tom Izzo struck again Tuesday, landing his third top prospect in one month. Enoch Boakye, the No. 1 ranked player in Canada, chose Michigan State over Texas Tech, Kansas, UCLA, Duke and Kentucky.

“Coach Izzo flew down to Canada quite a few times to watch me play even in a practice setting,” Boakye told Yahoo Sports. “The first time he came to see me it had been 20 years since he’d been to Canada to see a Canadian player play. Him coming down as a head coach to watch me play in Canada made me think that this was definitely the place for me.”

The 6-foot-10 incoming junior will join the No. 1 player in America, Emoni Bates, in a historic recruiting class. Boakye averaged 13 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks per game during his sophomore season and has lofty expectations for his time at Michigan State.

“Emoni is an amazing player and he’s super talented. With him as a guard and me in the post I feel like we can score from anywhere, inside or outside, and that is a huge major factor for us bringing home a national championship,” Boakye added.

There is still a chance fans never see these two players on the same team. Boakye could reclassify to the 2021 class and there is still a very good chance Bates never plays college basketball. Even so, Michigan State is on a roll and with the talent they have coming in, the Spartans could be a very dangerous team for the foreseeable future.
