The Nike x MLB City Connect uniform series celebrates the bond between club and city

The bond between a team and city is eternal. After all, just look how wild fans go after their respective team wins a championship regardless of the years that have passed since the last one. Nike and Major League Baseball are teaming up to pay homage to the bond between club and city with the new City Connect uniform series and the Boston Red Sox are the first club getting a fun new colorway completely different from their typical white, navy blue and red looks.

“Nike is uniquely suited for our relationship with MLB because we like pushing the edges of creativity across the board, but it's always done out of a place of supporting the players and advancing the sport,” Sonja Henning, Nike VP, North America League Partnerships said of the launch. “We take that same attentive energy in hearing insight from athletes and apply that to visualizing new and familiar relationships between clubs, cities and fans.”

The capsule begins with seven inaugural clubs: Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins and San Francisco Giants.

Right now, you can only purchase Red Sox gear, but don't worry. The Nike x MLB City Connect series will be unveiled now through August in conjunction with key sport and culture moments for each franchise and city.

The Nike Boston Red Sox City Connect design is inspired by Patriots’ Day and the power of athletics to unite Bostonians. Familiar to Bostonians, Patriots’ Day is a tradition that commemorates the steadfast spirit of champions. The bright yellow and powder blue adopts colors that honor the shared values of Beantown — drive, grit and resilience.
