Browns place Myles Garrett on reserve/COVID-19 list, out vs. Eagles

The Cleveland Browns placed stud defensive end Myles Garrett on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday, ruling him out for Sunday’s Week 11 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Players are put on the list for testing positive for COVID-19 or coming into close contact with an individual who has tested positive. They must have five days of negative tests to return from the list.

Browns: Garrett only one to miss game

The Browns announced in a statement that a player tested positive, but no other individuals are high-risk contacts. Teams do not announce names of players who have tested positive.

From the Browns statement:

“He has not been in the facility all week and zero high-risk contacts have been identified. Our facility remains open and our practice time for today remains as scheduled. As part of the NFL-NFLPA intensive protocols, all meetings this morning will take place remotely.

“The team will continue to consult with the league and medical experts on any appropriate next steps as the health and safety of our players, coaches, staff and the entire community remains our highest priority.”

The Browns (6-3) are in a tight AFC North with the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. They travel to Philadelphia (3-5), which wants to keep what little hold it has on its own division weeks away from playoffs.

Garrett, 24, leads the league in sacks (9.5) and could have padded that further against a weak Eagles offense. He’s a frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year.

Garrett is the latest Browns player to go on the list ahead of the Week 11 matchup. The team announced on Wednesday they were placing tackle Jack Conklin, long snapper Charley Hughlett and kicker Cody Parkey on the list. The trio joined tackle Chris Hubbard and fullback Andy Janovich.

Some of them could be activated in time for the game, but the Browns have nonetheless been practicing as if they won’t all week.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield was on the list in Week 9 since he was a close contact of a staff member who tested positive. The Browns were off that week and Mayfield was able to return for a 10-7 win against the Houston Texans last weekend.
