Children's hospital honors Josh Allen's grandmother with Bills-themed donate button after $34K pours in

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen delivered a statement win in Week 9, but it was with a heavy heart.

Allen’s grandmother, Patricia, died Saturday night at the age of 80, the team and head coach Sean McDermott said after a 44-34 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Allen opted to play and became the sixth quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards against Seattle.

Bills fans back Allen after loss of grandmother

After learning of their quarterback’s loss, Bills fans began donating $17 to Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo. Allen, 24, has supported the hospital during his time in Western New York and two weeks ago met with patients virtually to brighten their day.

The hospital responded to the donations by adding a “$17” donation button in honor of Allen and changing it from standard purple to Bills zubaz colors.

Allen has felt the power of Bills fandom before and thanked Buffalo on Twitter for the well wishes and donations.

He also released a statement through the team, via Buffalo News:

“I can’t tell you how special it is to see the outpouring of support for me and my family during this tough time. The donations made to OCH in honor of my grandmother would make her so proud. Thank you Bills Mafia! It is an honor to be your quarterback.”

Oishei Children’s Hospital said there had been $34,650 in donations made in the name of Allen’s family as of 1 p.m. ET on Monday. The quarterback is also donating 17 percent of his “Josh’s Jags” cereal to the hospital.
