Mysterious home with 27,000 wall hooks up for sale: ‘One-of-a-kind’

The property has kept buyers guessing.

It looks like any normal suburban house from the outside but this Victorian property has one confusing feature that is keeping buyers guessing.

Located at 23 Moody St, Koo Wee Rup in Cardinia, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home features one mysterious pink and black room filled with thousands of small wall hooks.

But the purpose of the hooks isn’t as gruesome as you might initially think. They were actually used to display the previous owner’s 27,000-strong teaspoon collection.

“People keep guessing as to its purpose,” OBrien Real Estate Cranbourne agent Mark Sewell told the Herald Sun.

The property is described as a “one-of-a-kind home that stands out from the rest”, and also features a western-themed man cave complete with a built-in bar, saloon style doors and pot belly fireplace, as well as ample shed spaces.

The home was named “Bewilderie” by the previous owners - Mal and Margery Pugh - who were “local identities” known to many residents.

The property’s shed houses were previously home to many of Mal’s quirky inventions, including a woman's water ski set with high heels, an indoor sundial, a rat trap with a computer mouse in it, as well as a collection of about 130 walking sticks.

The late Mal, who liked to refer to himself as “Mal Function”, also built a staircase that went nowhere in one of the sheds after he told Margery they needed more under-staircase storage.

“She said, 'We don't have a staircase' and I said that won't stop me," Mal previously told The Weekly Times.

Koo Wee Rup is a small town in Victoria in the Shire of Cardinia about 63 kilometres south-west of the Melbourne CBD.

The price guide is between $565,000 and $615,000.
