Yahoo Finance Mum’s heartbreaking post on 'empty black hole' left by children’s tragic deaths
A heartbroken Queensland mum who lost two of her children after her car plunged into a dam has urged parents to hold their children tight.
Parents Mel Martin, 33, and Dylan Wadley, 23, were driving with their four children from Pimpama on the Gold Coast back home to Pratten on November 23 about 2pm when their car veered off Beaudesert Boonah Road and into Wyaralong Dam.
Ms Martin and her partner survived but her son Leo, 13, and daughter Mia, 4, died. Two other children survived but one remains in hospital.
On Sunday, the mum shared her heartbreak on Facebook.
“Hold your babies just a little tighter tonight,” she wrote.
“Take that extra five minutes to go back after they are sleeping and kiss them or tuck them in. I'm so glad for all the times I did just that.”
The mum added “you think you'll have time to make up for missed time”, but “time waits for no one and tomorrows are never promised”.
“My sun and moon are gone and that leaves just an empty black hole that I'll never fill,” Ms Martin wrote.
“How do you close your eyes to sleep when half your world is just gone?”
Friends offer words of comfort to heartbroken mum
People shared their sympathy for Ms Martin and her two children in comments under the post.
“Mel, I cannot imagine losing children,” one woman wrote.
“Prayers that you and Dylan are on the mend. Hug those sweet babies.”
“My heart aches for you,” another woman wrote.
Another posted: “I cannot imagine losing children. Prayers that you and Dylan are on on the mend”.
What caused the crash is still under investigation.
Alcohol doesn't appear to have been a factor and the car was travelling on a straight section of road with a 100 km/h limit.
Police have appealed for anyone with dashcam footage from the area to contact Crime Stoppers.
