This Morning viewers were concerned for Holly Willoughby after she appeared emotional on Thursday’s episode amid the ongoing “queue-jumping” row.
It came as a petition calling for her and co-star Phillip Schofield to be sacked reaching 50,000 signatures.
Willoughby, 41, and Schofield, 60, were falsely accused of skipping the queue to witness the Queen’s lying-in-state last week.
The presenting duo were in fact at Westminster Hall for work and filmed a special segment for the ITV daytime show.
Despite them explaining that there had been no wrong-doing on their part and the broadcaster also backing them, the backlash has been relentless.
Those tuning in to the latest episode felt that the usually upbeat stars looked like they would rather be anywhere else.
“Holly looks like she wants to burst into tears,” remarked one user on Twitter.
“Holly doesn’t seem her happy bubbly self today. She seems really awkward and on edge,” agreed another.
“You can see that the two are just hanging on to a thread here,” chipped in a third, while someone else added: “Definitely no energy and don’t won’t to be there.”
Willoughby and Schofield addressed the furore during Tuesday’s episode when the show returned the day after the Queen’s funeral.
Speaking during a pre-recorded voiceover as part of a video montage capturing the events, she explained: “Like hundreds of accredited broadcasters and journalists, we were given official permission to access the hall. It was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions of people in the UK who haven’t been able to visit Westminster in person.
“None of the broadcasters and journalists there took anyone’s place in the queue, and no-one filed past the Queen.”
The mother-of-three continued: “We, of course, respected those rules. However we realise that it may have looked like something else and therefore totally understand the reaction. Please know that we would never jump a queue.”
