India travel curbs come into force as country added to UK coronavirus ‘red list’

Passengers on flights into the UK from India must now enter hotel quarantine as the country is officially added to the UK’s coronavirus travel red list.

As of 4am today, people returning from India must quarantine in a Government-approved hotel for 10 days.

Anyone who is not a UK or Irish resident or a British citizen will be banned from entering the country if they have been in India in the previous 10 days.

Four airlines asked for a total of eight extra flights to arrive at Heathrow before the 4am cut-off.

However, it is understood the airport declined the airlines’ requests to ensure existing pressures at the border were not exacerbated.

Dominic Cummings blamed for leaking PM’s text messages

Boris Johnson’s former aide Dominic Cummings has been blamed for the leaking of the Prime Minister’s text messages.

An internal inquiry has been launched into how messages between the Prime Minister and billionaire Sir James Dyson were leaked to journalists.

But reports said Downing Street sources are pointing the finger at Mr Cummings, who quit as Mr Johnson’s senior adviser last year following a behind the scenes power struggle in Number 10.

“Dominic is engaged in systematic leaking,” a source told The Times. “We are disappointed about that.

Vaccines slash infection and are likely to cut transmission, experts say

Covid vaccines should be able to control the pandemic as they slash infection rates and are likely to cut transmission, experts have said.

Just one dose of either the Pfizer BioNTech or AstraZeneca vaccines leads to a two-thirds drop in coronavirus cases and is 74 per cent effective against symptomatic infection, real-world UK data shows.

After two doses of Pfizer, there was a 70 per cent reduction in all cases and a 90 per cent drop in symptomatic cases – these are the people who are most likely to transmit coronavirus to others.

Murder probe after man dies when ‘BMW driven at group’

A man has died and another injured after a BMW was allegedly driven at a group of men during a fight in a Marks and Spencer car park in Surrey.

Police said a man is alleged to have driven a white 1 series BMW at two people on Thursday.

One of the men, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

A second man has been airlifted to hospital but is expected to recover, police said.

The owner of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Police are not presently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.

Prince Louis’s third birthday marked with adorable picture

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have marked Prince Louis’s third birthday by releasing a photograph of their son pictured on his first day of nursery school.

Louis is growing up fast and is shown sat on his bike in the grounds of Kensington Palace, smiling for mother Kate – who took the picture on Wednesday.

Wearing a jumper, shirt, shorts and with his rucksack on his back, the prince grips the handlebars and appears ready to cycle off to nearby Willcocks Nursery School – but was taken by car.

Louis celebrates his third birthday today and is following in the footsteps of big sister Princess Charlotte, aged five, who also attended the same nursery.
