Mom on TikTok hilariously captures the fear of waking a sleeping baby

One mom perfectly captured the fear of waking a sleeping baby, and it’s hilarious.

Mom of two and TikTok creator Lindsey Gurk made a laugh-out-loud video, and so many parents can relate.

In the video, you see Gurk’s baby napping peacefully. Then you see Gurk’s smiling face peering over the crib checking on her baby. The video cuts back to the baby, whose eyes are now open and is smiling with glee. The camera cuts back to Gurk, who sees that she’s woken her baby and mouths, “Baby, I’m not even here. I’m a hallucination,” and ducks out of sight.

The fear of waking a sleeping baby is real for most, if not all, parents and stems from both knowing how important it is for babies to get their sleep — but also from knowing how hard it can be to get babies to go down. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, infants aged 4 to 12 months need between 12 to 16 hours of sleep (including naps) in a 24-hour period.

Gurk’s adorably hilarious and super relatable video has more than 2 million views and thousands of comments from parents who’ve felt the familiar fear of waking a napping infant.

“Why is it I held my breath as if the baby was mine???” wrote one user, whose comment garnered over 1,000 likes.

Another was going through the same experience in real time. “As I watch this I’m trying to put my son down and he keeps opening his eyes the second I take a step away lol been stuck in the nursery all night.”

“It’s over the moment you make eye contact,” concluded another commenter.

The good news is that waking a sleeping baby isn’t the end of the world. According to KidsHealth, all newborns’ sleep patterns are different, but it’s normal for them to wake every couple of hours to eat. In fact, the Mayo Clinic suggests that in some instances newborns should be woken up to feed so that they can establish a pattern of weight gain and reach their birth weight milestone.

So don’t feel too bad if you unintentionally wake up your little one by lovingly staring at them. It happens to the best of parents. You just might need your own nap afterward!
