Mom reveals the 4 things she will ‘no longer do’ as someone in recovery from addiction

A mom is openly sharing her recovery story across social media platforms in the hopes of inspiring others — just in time for National Recovery Month.

Observed every September, National Recovery Month aims to increase public awareness surrounding mental health and addiction recovery.

But mom and TikToker Brittany Jade Anthony doesn’t wait until September to bring attention to recovery. She has made it her personal mission to break the stigma surrounding addiction, and the common misconception of what people who are addicts in recovery look like — all with the help of her TikTok account.

In one video, Brittany shared the four rules she’s made for herself on her recovery journey.

“Things I will no longer do as someone in recovery from addiction:

1. Put myself in triggering situations.

2. Take honest mistakes that other people make that might be beneficial to me.

3. Co-sign for the term ‘California sober.’

4. Have any shame in my recovery story.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “California sober” is loosely defined as cutting out certain addictive substances and replacing them with alternatives that, in theory, are less harmful.

In Brittany’s case, she’s chosen to abstain from drinking, despite alcohol not being her drug of choice (DOC).

With just $1,000 and one day, this Harlem bedroom gets a brand new look:

“Sobriety saved a life beyond my wildest dreams and gave me the opportunity to live it to the fullest this way,” Brittany wrote in one of her TikToks.

This fall, the mom of 3 will be celebrating 7 years sober — a feat she credits her little girl for.

“She was born on my 1 year sober birthday and saved me,” Brittany shared in a video.

Since sharing her recovery story online, Brittany has touched hundreds of thousands of hearts around the world.

“I hope that by sharing my story openly and talking about recovery openly across my social media platforms can inspire at least one person,” Brittany said in one of her videos.

But judging by the reactions to her TikToks, she’s inspired far more than just one person.

“We are all so proud of you, wishing you nothing but a lifetime of happiness and joy ✨❤️,” one TikToker wrote in Brittany’s comments.

“I’m so happy for you, never give up,” another user commented.

“I’ve never been so proud of someone I’ve never met!!! 🥰,” wrote another user.

“This truly bought a tear to me eye! You have such a beautiful family. I’m so proud of you, friend 💜 we do recover — 10/20/20!” another user wrote.
