Yahoo Finance Mom faces backlash after sharing ‘disrespectful’ parenting tactics: ‘Jealous and aggressive’
A mother is being called out after how she treated her son and her partner.
She went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to share an incident. Several years ago, when the mom became pregnant, the baby’s father disappeared. The woman remarried and her son, now 5, was entirely raised by her and her new wife. But when the mom felt that her son was closer to her wife than he was to her, she grew jealous.
“It always seemed like I was fighting her over my own son’s attention. Ever since he was a baby he was attached [to her] at the hip,” the user explained. “That’s supposed to be my job but we just don’t have that kind of relationship. I work a high-stress job while she has worked from home long before it was common. So she obviously had more time with him, but I still think that he’s MY son and it hurts to know he doesn’t have that relationship with me. He used to scream when I held him but would instantly stop when my wife would take him.”
One morning, the 5-year-old demanded the poster’s wife make him breakfast instead of her. This caused the user to snap at her son.
“He started throwing a fit but I just didn’t want to deal with it,” the woman wrote. “I told him he could either stay here and eat breakfast or go to his room for the rest of the day. My wife overheard and said I was being too harsh, I told her, look I’ve just about had it with you too, you’re not his mom so butt out and let me handle MY child. She went silent and just locked herself in our bedroom. She is refusing to talk to me and not responding to my texts, I think she’s overreacting.”
“You were mean, rude, disrespectful, dismissive and hurtful,” a person commented.
“[She] is that jealous and aggressive towards her own son and wife,” someone said.
“Your wife has done nothing wrong,” another wrote.
