Minnesota Vikings rookie Cameron Dantzler was taken to a hospital on Sunday after suffering a scary head injury during their 28-22 win against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Dantzler was carted off the field and underwent an X-ray at the stadium. He has full movement of his body, the team said, but was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Dantzler dove headfirst to try and tackle Packers running back A.J. Dillon to end the first quarter. Both Vikings linebacker Troy Dye and safety Anthony Harris jumped on Dillon as Dantzler did, collectively bringing him down.

Harris’ right leg collided directly with Dantzler’s head in the process, snapping it back awkwardly.

Dantzler remained down on the field motionless for several minutes before he was strapped to a backboard and immobilized. He was then carted off the field, and eventually taken to a nearby hospital.

The former Mississippi State standout was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft and had recorded 24 total tackles this season. Dantzler was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list this past week.

Though the injury could have been much worse, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Dantzler was likely to head back to Minnesota with the team on Sunday night.

“Cam’s doing better,” Zimmer said after the game. “He went to the hospital, evaluated for a concussion. We’re bringing him back now, and he should head back with us tonight.”

The Vikings snapped a two-game losing skid on Sunday thanks to a two-touchdown outburst from Dalvin Cook in the third quarter. Cook capped a 10-play, 65-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to get them started, and then caught a massive 50-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to give the Vikings a 14-point lead.

Cook finished with 226 total yards and scored all four touchdowns for Minnesota. Aaron Rodgers went 27-of-41 for 291 yards for the Packers and threw three touchdown passes to Davante Adams in the loss.
