Miguel Almirón did more than score twice to lift Newcastle United past West Bromwich Albion 3-2 and into the FA Cup quarterfinals.

He honored former Atlanta United teammate Josef Martínez while doing so.

Almirón and Martínez would celebrate goals together by mimicking the Fusion, a pose from anime television series Dragon Ball Z in which two characters would temporarily merge into a more powerful entity.

Martínez suffered a torn ACL on Saturday in Atlanta’s MLS season opener against Nashville SC. After scoring his first goal against West Brom off a nice ball forward by Allan Saint-Maximin ...

... Almirón struck the pose, calling to mind all those celebrations with Martínez:

The 26-year-old Almirón, who was sold to Newcastle in January 2019 after helping Atlanta win MLS Cup, scored again in first-half stoppage time.

Joelinton’s slick back heel set up the opportunity:

Valentino Lazaro added the third goal for Newcastle, while Matt Phillips and Kenneth Zohore scored for West Brom.

Almirón now has four goals in the FA Cup this season to go along with two in the Premier League. Safe to say the celebration meant a little more to him on Tuesday.
