Yahoo Finance Michigan high school football player dies due to complications from knee surgery
A Michigan high school football player died the day after Thanksgiving due to complications from surgery he initially underwent a few weeks ago.
Trevon Tyler was a offensive and defensive lineman for South Lyon East in Michigan. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound junior suffered a torn meniscus during an Oct. 4 game, per the Detroit Free Press, and underwent his first surgery for it about three weeks ago.
“That surgery went really well. They fixed everything up. He had been doing physical therapy with our trainer at the school,” South Lyon East head coach Joe Pesci said, via the Free Press.
"I guess he had to go back in, to get something cleaned up, a week ago last Monday. They said that went well. They took care of everything. Everybody went on break. He was in good spirits. I guess, Thursday night, maybe late, he developed a blood clot. And Friday morning, we were told he developed a blood clot, which led to a heart attack, and he passed away Friday morning.
“It’s somewhat mind-boggling that it could happen.”
Trevon is described as a great friend, a jokester and the “nicest, most fun-loving, caring kid” by school officials and those writing on the GoFundMe page for his family.

The school announced a whiteout for Monday in honor of Trevon. Yards in the area have white ribbons on trees in honor of him and wristbands are being made for students, per the Free Press. Players on the team have committed to playing for Trevon, from offseason weight lifting programs to next season’s chant.
Offensive line coach Chad Stuckey told the Free Press:
“When we break a huddle, we chant, ‘We are?’ And everybody goes, ‘East!’” Stuckey said. “And then, ‘We will?' And we put something on there.
"Our slogan for next year is going to be: ‘We are East! We will? Play for Tre!’”
Those who were in town for the Thanksgiving holiday met at the team’s locker room with coaches to grieve and tell stories on Friday. The school has provided a crisis team for anyone who wants to talk.
