While there are a few trusted men’s grooming brands on the market that shoppers love, let’s be honest — not many of them are minority-owned. Among those that exist, most feature similar product lines that carry heavily fragranced items marketed towards a “male” audience.

Bevel is a brand that sets itself apart from the rest. Created with men with textured hair and pigmented skin in mind, this Black-owned brand now has a loyal following and an even wider assortment of products than it did during its launch.

Bevel was founded by African-American entrepreneur Tristan Walker and is a part of the young mogul’s health and beauty company, Walker & Company Brands, founded in 2013.

In a 2018 interview with CNN, Walker shared that the initial idea for Bevel stemmed from his frustration of not finding a razor that worked well with his unique skin and hair type as a man with textured hair.

“Shaving irritation and razor bumps [are] issues some 80 percent of Black men and women have globally,” he told CNN. “If you have curly hair, this is an issue that you’re likely to face.”

He added that the brand “really started out of my frustrations of not having products that I could use.” And from then, Bevel only continued to grow.

After launching with its now-signature razor and shaving products, the brand extended its product lineup to include a wider range of personal care products for Black and Brown people.

Today, Bevel offers body, shaving, hair, skin and beard products and has received praise from Black icons like iconic rappers Nas and Big Daddy Kane, music producer Ryan Leslie and so much more.
