McPherson's profit up 7.6%

Homewear and beauty products company McPherson's has delivered a first half profit increase of 7.6 per cent despite challenging trading conditions.

The company on Tuesday posted a net profit for the six months to December 31 of $10.91 million, up from $10.14 million in the previous corresponding period.

It also announced a fully-franked interim dividend of 10 cents to be paid to its shareholders on April 11.

Managing director Paul Maguire said the company had increased productivity and efficiency in order to deliver an improved result in tough trading conditions.

"This solid result demonstrates the resilience of our product range at a time when consumer spending on discretionary items has been weak," Mr Maguire said.

He said he expected the company to improve its second half earnings due to new products and continued efficiency gains.
