While it’s usually mixed with water and consumed as a hot or iced beverage, matcha also makes a great addition to a wide range of desserts and sweet breakfast dishes. Here are five matcha recipes from TikTok that might surprise you!

1. Matcha cinnamon rolls

Sugar, cinnamon and matcha give these vibrant cinnamon rolls tons of flavor! Start by making a dough out of milk, sugar, yeast, flour, matcha, butter, eggs and salt. Cover the dough and let it rise. Then roll it out and coat it with butter and a mixture of white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and powdered sugar. Roll up the cinnamon rolls and bake them. Then top them with a frosting made out of cream cheese, butter, matcha powder and powdered sugar. Garnish with more matcha powder and edible rose petals, and serve!

2. Matcha baked oats

These matcha baked oats make for a satisfying breakfast! Simply blend oats, bananas, chia seeds, milk, maple syrup, matcha powder, vanilla extract, baking powder and salt. Then pour the mixture into a baking dish, and top it with a few pieces of dark chocolate. Bake the oats until they start to solidify and turn golden brown. Then top with sliced bananas and strawberries, and dig in!

3. Six-ingredient matcha burnt cheesecake

This matcha burnt cheesecake may look intimidatingly fancy, but it’s surprisingly easy to make. Start by mixing room temperature cream cheese and sugar until they become fluffy. Then mix in eggs, matcha powder, corn starch and heavy cream. Pour the cheesecake batter into a parchment-lined baking dish, and bake for 25 minutes. Let the cheesecake cool. Then slice it and serve!

4. Vegan matcha frozen yogurt bars

These vegan matcha frozen yogurt bars make a healthy and refreshing treat. To make them, mix dairy-free yogurt, maple syrup and matcha powder in a bowl. Pour the yogurt mixture into a parchment-lined baking dish. Then top it with chopped pistachios. Freeze the yogurt for several hours. Then slice and enjoy!

5. Matcha white chocolate chip cookies

Upgrade your next batch of chocolate chip cookies by adding a bit of matcha powder. Start by mixing flour, corn starch, baking soda, salt and matcha. Then mix in eggs, butter, sugar and vanilla extract. Fold in white chocolate chips. Then form the dough into cookie shapes, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake the cookies to your desired consistency. Then serve them up with a matcha latte for dipping!
