How to match your lipstick to your blush

On this episode of In the Know: Beauty School, celebrity makeup artist and host Patrick Ta drops some knowledge on how to create stellar lipstick and blush combinations, including his favorite techniques and can’t-miss products.

According to Ta, the key for any successful lip and blush pairing is making sure your color choices are “within the same undertones.”

“Whenever you are choosing your lip colors, you want to find a blush that has the same undertone in it, and then everything will look nice and cohesive,” says the beauty expert.

For his demonstration, Ta chooses an orange lip color, and starts applying the lip liner using the Patrick Ta Precision Lip Crayon. “I always like to start from the center of the Cupid’s bow, working my way towards the perimeter,” says Ta.

Ta recommends overdrawing towards the center of the lips to create a pout, but once you get to the end of the lips, he suggests staying within the lip line.

Once the liner is applied, Ta takes out an orange Patrick Ta Matte Suede Lipstick and begins applying it to the model’s lips.

“Orange lipstick can be worn for the summer, or if you’re on vacation, or honestly with any sort of white outfit,” says Ta while applying the matte lipstick. “An orange lipstick is beautiful.

To help blend the lipstick with your lip liner, you can use the Patrick Ta Lip Brush to create a clean, uniform lip look. Once the lipstick is fully applied, it’s time to move onto the blush.

“I always like to apply my lips before I apply blush because sometimes when I do blush before lips, I feel like I either put too much or too little,” shared Ta.

For his blush, Ta chooses the Patrick Ta Double-Take Creme & Powder Blush, and starts applying the powder first, using the Sephora Collection Pro Blush Brush #96.

“I always like to put blush just like right onto the apples of the cheeks,” explains Ta. The model has a slightly longer face, Ta explained, but if you have more of a rounded face, he recommends keeping the blush more towards the high points of your cheekbones, so that the blush can “lift the face and not so much round the face.”

Ta also likes to put a little bit of blush right under the eyes. “I really want the blush to look like it’s melting into the foundation,” says Ta.

Next, Ta takes a beautyblender Power Pocket Puff, and starts blending the blush powder into the model’s face. “I always like to press my blush into the foundation,” says Ta.

Once the powder is blended, Ta applies the cream side of the blush using the blender. “It’s going to really just like, lock in the pigment,” explains Ta. Applying the cream after the powder, will also “give your skin a little bit of a glow,” according to Ta. “It melts all of the powder blush into the skin so that your blush looks like it’s coming from within your skin or your foundation.”

To Ta, matching lipstick and blush is a quick, simple way to achieve some serious glam. “Honestly if you don’t even want to put anything else on, it can really create a beautiful look,” says Ta.
