Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Treace Medical Concepts, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMCI) Chief Financial Officer, Mark Hair, recently bought US$98k worth of stock, for US$15.80 per share. That purchase might not be huge but it did increase their holding by 46%.

Treace Medical Concepts Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent purchase by Mark Hair was the biggest purchase of Treace Medical Concepts shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$14.67 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

In the last twelve months Treace Medical Concepts insiders were buying shares, but not selling. Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Treace Medical Concepts insiders own 43% of the company, currently worth about US$350m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Treace Medical Concepts Tell Us?

It is good to see recent purchasing. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Treace Medical Concepts insiders are well aligned, and quite possibly think the share price is too low. That's what I like to see! While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
