Man sparks debate after sharing strict new financial rule for his wife: ‘I don’t trust her’

A man doesn’t want his wife driving his new car unsupervised and feels he has a good reason.

He took to Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to explain his reasoning after his wife got upset. He is in the military and over the years has often been deployed. While he was away his wife has gotten into numerous car accidents. Her behavior has caused their insurance to go up and has even totaled two of their cars. But she thinks his request is unfair.

“In the last 10 years, I’ve had zero accidents, zero parking tickets and one speeding ticket,” he wrote. “She’s had five speeding tickets, various other moving violations, four at-fault accidents with two resulting in total vehicle loss, and almost had her license suspended. After I got home [from deployment], we got another sedan, but newer with some features I wanted. I told her she can’t drive it unsupervised. Needless to say, she was mad.”

The wife’s reckless driving has cost them payouts to other drivers she crashed into and raised their insurance bills.

“I don’t trust her ability to drive,” he explained. “She always has to be going over 80miles per hour, regardless of the road and traffic conditions. She likes to ride less than 10 feet from the car in front of her, regardless of speed. And she occasionally drives drunk if I’m not around to tell her not to. I fear one day she’s going to get somebody killed. Her accidents and tickets have bought our monthly insurance to over $590. If I had my own insurance for both cars, I’d be paying about $150 per month.”

Reddit users thought the husband was being fair.

“She just needs to retire from driving at this point,” someone wrote.

“Your wife is a danger to society,” another said.

“She sounds legitimately dangerous,” a user commented.
