Man killed in fatal shooting after street party in Brixton

Two men have been arrested after a fatal shooting following a street party in Brixton.

A man in his 20s was shot in Belinda Road at around 6am yesterday and died later in hospital.

Detectives said they last night arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of murder and another man on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Witnesses said a party had been going on before the shooting.

One said: “There was screaming and glass smashing and what sounded like a shot. Then all hell broke loose and they were all scattering.

“There were cars, someone on a scooter and people running from the scene. It was mayhem.”

Murder squad detectives have been scouring the scene for evidence alongside forensics specialists.

Witnesses told how partygoers scattered after the man was shot.

One said: “They were having a party, they have them in the road down here quite a lot. There was screaming and glass smashing and what sounded like a shot.

“Then all hell broke loose and they all started scattering. There were cars, someone on a scooter as people ran from the scene. It was mayhem.”

Another said: “It was a loud party, a frequent thing down here. There was shouting and then cars speeding off. The next thing we knew police were everywhere.”

Neighbours today described how they heard a gunshot ring out in the early morning.

Murder squad detectives have been scouring the scene for clues alongside forensics specialists.

Friends of the victim left a floral tribute to him describing him as a “fun human being who gave life”.

A card said: “I am so sorry this has happened to you you were such a fun human and gave every-one life your memories live on rest in heaven.”

A police cordon remained around the scene today as police inquiries continued.
