Man furious over girlfriend’s surprise spending decision: ‘He has no right to judge’

A woman is upset that her boyfriend judged her over a $100 coat she wanted to get for her dog.

She went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to explain an argument they had. She makes five times the salary her boyfriend does and wanted to buy a warmer coat for her dog. But when she mentioned its $100 price tag, her boyfriend told her she should donate the money to charity instead.

“I live in the Rockies where it snows a lot.” she said. “Yesterday my boyfriend and I took my 5-month-old, 8-pound puppy for a walk and halfway through he started shivering so badly I needed to put him inside my jacket to warm him up. I began looking for a better / more insulated jacket and found one for about $100. My boyfriend got irate about the idea of me spending that kind of money on it and told me I should instead go donate that money to a children’s charity. He also said, ‘I don’t know what I’m going to think of you if you buy that.’ Needless to say, I was pissed and it turned into a big argument.”

She provided additional details about their financial arrangement.

“My bf and I don’t live together and don’t have blended finances,” she explained. “I make about five times what he does and so I tend to pay the larger share for most of what we do together (and I’m fine with that). I am generally very responsible with money: I own a home, contribute to retirement, donate 10% to charity, am generous with my family, etc.”

Reddit users were didn’t think the boyfriend had any say in her spending.

“He has no right to judge you,” someone wrote.

“What you spend your money on is your business,” another commented.

“Buy the coat and dump the boyfriend,” a user said.
