Man faces backlash after criticizing girlfriend’s ‘important’ arm tattoo: ‘This is ridiculous’

A man is upset that his girlfriend has a tattoo memorializing her ex-boyfriend’s passing.

He went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to explain the dilemma. His girlfriend has a tattoo of a date and a cross on her arm, he always assumed it was in reference to her dad’s death. But he later found out it’s about her ex. When the Reddit poster asked his girlfriend prodding questions about the tattoo, he didn’t understand why she was peeved.

“On her forearm by her wrist, she has a tattoo of a date and a cross. She got it while we were exclusively together but not officially,” the Reddit poster said. “I came to find out that it’s the date her ex died. She says she had no romantic feelings for him by that time but they were still good friends. Cool, I asked if she’d hypothetically do the same if I were to unexpectedly die tomorrow and she said no pretty much with no hesitation because it must be bad luck to keep doing it or whatever. Makes sense, so I asked whether she would do it if she hadn’t already done it for her friend which she didn’t respond to and just started shouting at me.”

The Reddit poster was still skeptical of the tattoo, however.

“I don’t think upset is the right word but I can’t think of anything else,” the Reddit poster said. “I just feel a bit off, that’s all which I guess has apparently affected my affection and actions towards her. She thinks I’m being unreasonable by letting this affect me. I don’t know, I feel a bit weird because they dated for a year and were ‘good friends’ for a year after.”

Reddit users did not approve of the boyfriend’s outlook.

“This is ridiculous,” one user said.

“You’re literally competing with a dead man who was important to the woman you claim you love,” another wrote.

“Stop grilling her about her dead friend,” someone commented.
