When it comes to monochromatic makeup, you can never have too much of a good thing! The trendy beauty aesthetic utilizes one tone, color, or color family to create a totally cohesive look. Think of it as your glam working in harmony, rather than being matchy-matchy. On this episode of In the Know: Beauty School, celebrity makeup artist and host, Kirin Bhatty (@kirinstagram), shares her tips and tricks and go-to products that will help you achieve your best monochromatic makeup look.

Bhatty uses the Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette, and notes that the shades are “gorgeous.” She gravitates towards two complimentary purple-y iridescent colors and taps them on the model’s eyelids using her fingertips to create a solid base.

Then, Bhatty takes a darker, more “aubergine” purple shade from the palette, and pushes it into the model’s lash line with an eyeshadow brush. The makeup artist selects a few more shades from the palette and brushes them into the crease of the model’s eyelids. Next, she uses a darker shade and some shimmer to create a drop shadow under the model’s eye.

After building the eyeshadow, Bhatty moves on to eyeliner. She applies the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil to the model’s waterline to add some dimension to the eyes.

For the cheeks, Bhatty uses Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush. With a brush, the makeup artist applies the blush starting at the apples of the model’s cheeks and moves up into the hairline. Then, Bhatty taps over the blush with the The BEAUTYBLENDER Makeup Sponge to create a more natural look.
Bhatty wraps up the monochrome look with lips. She applies a NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil that has a “purple-y tone, with fuschia and jam mixed in it” to tie the whole look together.
