Australians in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia can expect to start receiving their $300 energy bill rebates in their next billing cycle. The hotly anticipated relief was due to roll out from July 1 but some Aussies have recently received their bills with no credit applied.

The Australian Energy Council (AEC) told Yahoo Finance that energy providers had been waiting for arrangements to be finalised to allow them to deliver the quarterly payments to customers. While the payments are from the federal government, they are administered by the states and territories.

“First payments can be expected to be made in a customer’s next billing cycle in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia, while in Queensland the quarterly payment has already commenced,” a spokesperson for the AEC said.

“Retailers had been awaiting finalisation of arrangements in the jurisdictions of Victoria, NSW and South Australia, which has now occurred.”

It follows reports of the rebates being delayed in these states due to “bureaucratic red tape”. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has hit back at this.

“If it's paid through on a quarterly basis, it's a $300 decrease during this financial year. There's no delay,” he told ABC Radio Sydney.

“It comes off the bill. And depending upon how you pay your bill, of course, that's what explains the different timings coming through.”

You don’t need to do anything to receive the rebate. The first $75 installment will be automatically applied to your electricity account each quarter.

Queenslanders would have already started to receive the credit applied to their bills, along with a $1,000 upfront rebate provided through the state government.

Origin Energy told customers there was “no need to call” if they don’t have their rebate yet and said it understood the urgency of the payment.

“We’re working closely with state and territory governments to get your Energy Bill Relief Fund rebates into your electricity accounts as soon as possible,” Origin said on its website.

EnergyAustralia told residential customers in NSW, VIC, SA and the ACT that instalments would be automatically applied to their account by August 19, while QLD customers would have had it applied by July 8.
