Yahoo Finance France becomes the latest country to see women's soccer attendance record broken
In the latest example of a worldwide trend, the French women’s soccer league, Division 1 Féminine, saw its attendance record broken yet again on Saturday.
A total of 30,661 fans were in attendance for Lyon’s 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain, besting a previous record of 25,907 set by the same two teams in April, according to L’Equipe.

It’s probably not a surprise that Lyon owns the past and present record considering the club won its fourth straight Women’s Champion’s League title earlier this year.
Several records being set in 2019
If this kind of story sounds familiar, that’s because it’s just the latest example of record attendance seen in the women’s soccer since the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
Three of the four most attended games in the history of the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League have occurred since the end of the tournament, including the most attended game. The Portland Thorns drew a crowd of 25,218 on Aug. 11, one of many teams to see a spike in attendance following the USWNT’s win in France.
A match between Manchester United and Manchester City in England’s Women’s Super League also saw record attendance in September with 31,213.
All of those leagues will have some work to do to catch Spain though, as a match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona drew 60,739 earlier this year, a world record for a women’s club football match.
