LSU WR Ja'Marr Chase will wear famed No. 7 in 2020
LSU’s famed No. 7 will be worn by the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner in 2020.
The defending national champs announced Thursday that WR Ja’Marr Chase would wear the number this season. Chase won the award for best wide receiver in the country in 2019 as LSU’s offense was the most explosive in the country.

The No. 7 jersey has been traditionally given to the player who is considered the Tigers’ best playmaker. All-America safety Grant Delpit wore it in 2019 as LSU went 15-0 and beat Clemson for the national title. NFL players like Leonard Fournette, D.J. Chark, Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu have also worn it in their time as Tigers.
Chase was LSU’s obvious choice for the jersey in 2020. He was the team’s leading receiver with 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns on just 84 catches. Chase and Justin Jefferson formed the best 1-2 combination of receivers in the country as they had 38 TD catches and over 3,300 combined receiving yards.
LSU opens the 2020 season against Texas-San Antonio before hosting Texas the following week.
