Liverpool fan says disastrous title defence due to colour of Anfield seat coverings

One Liverpool fan believes he knows the reason behind his club's disastrous title defence: the colour of the Anfield seat coverings.

Defeat to Chelsea on Thursday was Liverpool's fifth in a row at Anfield, the club's worst run in their 129-year history.

A haul of just 12 points from the last 39 available has seen their title defence go up in smoke and left the players fighting for a top-four finish.

Liverpool were sitting top at Christmas but have won just three times since, and could find themselves in ninth should Tottenham and Aston Villa win their games in hand.

And one Liverpool fan, called Frank, called up talkSPORT to explain how the champions can get back to winning ways, be redecorating the stands.

"My belief is it's not just at Anfield, it's all clubs that play in red like Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal,' he said.

"We have red backdrops and we play in red kits.

"I believe it is the colour clash when clubs are passing the ball, it takes them longer to visualise their players."

Frank continued: "If you're making a painting and you put a red colour on top of a red, it actually looks worse than blue on blue.

"I can guarantee if Liverpool changed their backdrop to their away kit, they would perform a lot better.

"Even if it only made a 10 per cent difference, in the scheme of things 10 per cent is a lot."
