Yahoo Finance Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has successful surgery on groin injury
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has undergone successful surgery on the injury he sustained during last weekend’s Merseyside derby defeat to Everton.
The club say the 30-year-old has “had a corrective procedure carried out on the adductor injury and will begin a rehabilitation programme immediately”.
Henderson was forced off midway through the first-half at Anfield and initial reports suggested he could be out for as long as 12 weeks.
While Liverpool have put no official timeframe on his absence other than to rule him out until after next month’s international break, reports say six-to-eight weeks is a more realistic timeframe.
That would be a significant boost to Liverpool’s Champions League hopes, with Henderson potentially back to play a part in the latter stages if Reds are still in the competition, not to mention Gareth Southgate and England ahead of this summer’s European Championships.
Injury and availability issues mean Henderson has played just three times for the Three Lions since October 2019, but he remains one of Southgate’s most trusted senior players.
