Lisa Wilkinson cracks up at Prince Andrew joke on The Project

Lisa Wilkinson was left with a case of the giggles when The Project co-host Kate Langbroek cracked a joke about beleaguered royal Prince Andrew on Thursday night.

The panellists, along with Jan Fran and Peter Helliar, were discussing a controversial performance by an all-female dance troupe at a naval event over the weekend.

In footage captured and shared on social media by the ABC, members of the 101 Doll Squadron were seen twerking at the unveiling of the HMAS Supply in Sydney on Saturday while senior Navy officers watched on.

The footage was later revealed to have been edited 'incorrectly' to include cutaway shots of Australian Defence Force chief Angus Campbell and Governor-General David Hurley who were not actually in the audience at the time.

The Project hosts slammed the way the dancers had been harrassed online following the release of the footage, which reportedly left them feeling 'unsafe'.

'Lured Prince Andrew'

In an attempt to lighten the mood, radio star Kate made a quip about the Duke of York who has a long association with the British navy.

"I did get excited when they showed the correct footage of the dignitaries arriving in the white uniforms," Kate began with a cheeky smile on her face.

"I thought 'oh that's lured Prince Andrew out. There he is!'" she added, erupting in laughter.

Lisa also let out a chuckle before attempting to compose herself and move the conversation along.

"Well... ok," she said while shuffling her papers.

The Duke of York has been under intense scrutiny after stepping back from public duties over his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein 18 months ago.

The prince has consistently denied all claims of wrongdoing.

'Palace uproar'

Prince Andrew was reportedly 'linked to a palace uproar' over a request he made to the Queen ahead of his late father, Prince Philip's funeral.

The Duke of York is said to have demanded he be allowed to dress in Admiral uniform despite deferring the title amid the Epstein scandal.

Her Majesty swiftly put an end to her son's demands by ordering that no royals would be permitted to wear military uniform to the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, instead suggesting all senior male royals wear suits and ties.

The move also saved Prince Harry from potentially ending up as the only royal family member not in military attire after he lost his military titles when he stepped back from his royal duties.
