LiAngelo Ball reportedly signing G League contract with Thunder affiliate

LiAngelo Ball is inching closer to the NBA.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Ball is signing a contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue.

Ball, the 21-year-old middle brother in the famous/infamous Ball family, signed with the Blue as a practice player back in late December. Prior to that he’d been playing in his father’s Junior Basketball Association, which came after a stint with a Lithuanian team.

Ball’s basketball journey has been all over the place, but it started off fairly traditionally. He committed to UCLA after graduating from high school in 2017, and even played in a preseason game for the Bruins, but was suspended in November after being arrested in China for shoplifting. The suspension was indefinite, and Ball eventually withdrew to go play in Lithuania. He signed with the JBA after he failed to be selected by any team in the 2018 NBA draft.

Ankle surgery and the subsequent recovery has kept Ball from playing recently, and the Blue have just 10 games left on their schedule this season. The deal with the Blue will reportedly be completed by waiver claim.

Ball’s other brother, Lonzo, currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans. His younger brother, LaMelo, is a potential No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
