Last chance to claim these $1,000 Centrelink disaster payments

Victorians eligible for Centrelink disaster payments in the wake of heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of the state in June 2021 only have a few more days to make a claim.

Parts of the state experienced severe damage to homes and properties, as well as black outs and road closures, due to strong winds and rain on June 9 and 10, 2021.

People have until May 31 to lodge a claim if these events directly affected their income.

As many as 119 properties were damaged beyond repair in the storms.

Affected Victorians are eligible for one-off Disaster Recovery Payments from the Australian Government, as well as a Disaster Recovery Allowance for a maximum of six weeks.

Eligible Victorians can apply for a $1,000 lump payment per adult and $400 per child under the Disaster Recovery Payment rules.

For the ongoing allowance, the amount victims will receive depends on their circumstances.

People who earn more than the average Australian weekly income of $1,713.90 are not eligible for payments.

Those who make less than this amount are eligible for an allowance over six weeks in line with the maximum JobSeeker and Youth Allowance payments.

The maximum JobSeeker payment is $880.20 a fortnight. This is for a single principal carer granted an exemption from mutual obligation requirements for foster caring or some other legitimate reason.

The highest Youth Allowance payment is $679 a fortnight for a single parent with children.
