A group of students renting an apartment in Leeds, England were left stunned when their landlord deposited an extra 20 per cent into their accounts upon their moving out.

The seven students, who had lived there for three years, were worried about the landlord not returning their bond money until they received a surprising message.

“I’ll refund your deposits in the next few minutes,” the landlord, known as John, said.

“As a thank you I have added a small bonus of £50 (AU$91) to each of your deposits making it £300 and now that the shops are opening again I hope you’ll be able to buy yourselves something nice.”

In total, the landlord would have given the tenants an extra $637 on top of their deposits.

“A nice student landlord,” tenant, Maisie, said. “Love you John.”

The landlord told LeedsLive he wished his tenants well in the future.

“If they carry on how they did in my house they will be fine people.”

Maisie’s tweet has garnered a whopping 265,000 likes with 11,000 retweets.

“A nice student landlord???” One user tweeted. “He must be the only one!!! What a guy!” She said.

Maisie said she was “amazed” by the amount of attention the tweet received.

“It’s important for people to be aware that there are good landlords too,” she said.
