Many companies and job seekers already use LinkedIn to connect, but a new tool on the social media platform could take that matchmaking to the next level.
Hashtagging has been a common feature on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, but was only officially introduced mid-2016 on the business-orientated LinkedIn.
This means potential employees can now use it to search for companies with very specific benefits, according to CNBC.
For example, if a user searched for “free drinks” in a search engine, companies would only show up if there was something written about them and their free drinks for employees. But if a search was performed for “#freedrinks” on LinkedIn, all companies that have promoted this as a workplace feature would appear.
This means that employers can promote the workplace perks they want to use to attract candidates, and job seekers can search directly for the specific conditions that appeal to them.
This type of non-monetary matchmaking is increasingly relevant in the modern labour market with employees valuing work-life balance as much as the level of salary.
With the hashtag feature only in existence for 16 months, employers are still building up their search profiles. But once critical mass is reached, the tool could be the secret to connecting with future employers that have #freedrinks, #dogsatwork or #flexiblework.
