Kyrie Irving pays off tuition for nine students at Lincoln University

Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving said he wanted to be judged by his actions “on and off the court” this year, and he’s following through on that promise. Irving paid off the college tuition of nine students at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The gesture was part of Irving’s foundation, which celebrates 11 days of giving each December. Irving, who wears No. 11, decided to dedicate one of those days to helping students at Lincoln University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

It’s unclear how much Irving spent to pay off tuition for those students. Irving has spent much of 2020 donating money to help others. In July, Irving pledged $1.5 million to WNBA players who opted out of the 2020 WNBA season. He also donated $323,000 to Feeding America, and $200,000 to the Food Bank in New York.

Kyrie Irving off to a strong start with the Nets

After an injury-riddled season, Irving has gotten off to a strong start during the 2020-21 NBA season. Through four games, Irving is averaging a career high 28.3 points. He’s also averaged 6 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Behind Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets are 3-2 on the season. Irving will look to continue his hot start when the Nets take on the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
