Krispy Kreme's 'KKK' promotion backfires
A Krispy Kreme store in the UK has come under fire after they launched an ill-considered promotion called ‘KKK Wednesdays’.
In this instance the three Ks stood for Krispy Kreme Klub, but the innocent promotion of donuts was overshadowed by the fact the acronym is generally associated with the Klu Klux Klan –a white supremacist group in the US.
A US spokesperson for Krispy Kreme apologised for the name that was chosen.
This too funny to me #KKKWednesday 😂 Suppose to mean krispy kreme klub lmao pic.twitter.com/BCdKzsYXHd

"We are aware of the Hull store's unfortunate naming choice for its club program, and we are truly sorry for any inconvenience or offense this misstep may have caused our fans," Lafeea Watson, U.S. spokeswoman for Krispy Kreme, told the Huffington Post in a statement.
"We do believe this was a completely unintentional oversight on the part of our longtime franchise partners in the UK."
Krispy Kreme's mid-week 'KKK Wednesday' was advertised alongside less sinister activities such as 'Facepainting Thursday' and 'Colouring Tuesday'.
