Vanessa Bryant shares touching letter from daughter Gianna's best friend

While millions of people around the world continue to mourn Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna a year after their tragic deaths, no one is more affected than their family and friends. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, has been handling this unimaginable situation with grace and dignity, and she continues to recognize others who are mourning with her.

Vanessa recently received a letter from Aubrey Callagan, one of 13-year-old Gianna’s best friends, and posted it on Instagram with Aubrey’s permission. In Aubrey’s beautiful and honest letter, she shares how her friendship with Gianna changed her life and helped her become a better person.

Aubrey shared her memories of how caring and thoughtful Gianna was, sharing her snacks and leaving notes in school notebooks. Those are the normal acts of a teenage girl, but they have more meaning to Aubrey now that Gianna is gone.

Remembering the wonderful person Gianna was, and the impact she had on the world in such a short time, helps Aubrey deal with the loss of her best friend.

“There are times I get into a pit of despair thinking about her and what she could’ve accomplished had she had a couple more years. But recently I have been thinking about the mark she did leave on this earth. Her fights for equality in sports made the world reconsider there opinions, she along with Mr. Bryant, set the wheels in motion. But on a lower level, on behalf of every person who came across her, I can say she changed our lives. Her simple actions made all of us a better person, and I believe that the results of this will never stop appearing.”

In her Instagram post, Vanessa wrote that she was so grateful for Aubrey’s letter, and for the memories she shared. Aubrey has more memories, and invited Vanessa to reach out if she ever wants to hear them.
