In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, it’s time to learn about a Latina-founded brand you can shop right at Nordstrom: Nopalera.

Born near the U.S.-Mexico border to Mexican immigrant parents, Nopalera’s founder, Sandra Velasquez, started the brand to celebrate her heritage and the richness of her culture. Velasquez was inspired by the nopal cactus for its cultural symbolism, resiliency and sustainability.

According to the Nopalera site, “The nopal cactus is an ancient symbol of Mexican culture. It’s also one of the most sustainable, nourishing, and resilient crops in the world. You can eat it, make textiles from it, and use it to hydrate your skin and hair.”

“Growing up, nopales were everywhere,” Velasquez said. “We’d frequently cut them from our own yard and cook them. Later, I began using nopales in my artisan bath and body products, and Nopalera was born.”

Check out some of the brand’s offerings down below and be sure to shop, shop, shop.
