At just 17 years old, Isra Hirsi, daughter of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, wears many hats. The Minneapolis native is currently a high school senior. Outside of school, Hirsi is a political and racial activist and climate change advocate. She is the co-founder and co-executive director of the U.S. Youth Climate Strike. In 2019, Hirsi founded the organization, which included over 100,000 young people to strike for climate justice. A crucial part of her climate justice works includes fighting for racial justice. Hirsi advocates for Black lives, as climate change disproportionately affects Black communities.
Hirsi’s accomplishments, since 2019, include a TED Talk, receiving the Brower Youth Award and being named in Fortune’s 40 Under 40 list.
