In The Know Honors: Edvin Thompson
Founder, Theophilio
Age: 27
Hometown: Kingston, Jamaica
Edvin Thompson is the Jamaican-born fashion designer behind the popular brand Theophilio. Thompson, drawn to merging various identities through fashion, would eventually find his fashion footing in America with his family.
Thompson, however, didn’t have a conventional career path. The designer doesn’t hold a fashion school degree. Mentored by Mia Moto and Wintter Alex (co-owners of the now-closed vintage boutique Poor Little Rich Girl), Thompson sharpened his sewing skills. In 2014, Thompson moved from down south to Brooklyn. There, he found his community of creatives who encouraged him to start his own fashion line. Two years later, his fashion brand, Theophilio, was born.
Theophilio is a unisex fashion line based in Brooklyn. The line blends the designer’s cultural upbringing with New York influences and the immigrant experience. The brand also focuses on sustainably-sourced material and upcycled fabric. Edvin Thompson and Theophilio have appeared at New York Fashion Week, as well as i-D, Teen Vogue, Vogue and Essence (to name a few).
