After attending multiple protests in and around Jersey City in the week following the death of George Floyd, high school senior A’Dreana Williams wanted to organize a peaceful protest that would be even louder. As the president of the Black Diaspora Club at McNair Academic High School, which had expanded its focus beyond the school during their tenure, Williams had already proven themself as a leader. In coordination with the club’s vice-president, Chance Chandler, the current Howard University freshman spread the word about their Rally to End Police Brutality on June 6, which ultimately attracted over 4,500 people to City Hall, making it Jersey City’s largest peaceful protest in support of Black Lives Matter.
