Kim Kardashian's underwear ad faces backlash over alleged Photoshop fail: 'They refuse to do anything natural'

The Kardashian-Jenner family is all too familiar with alleged Photoshop fails. Just a few months ago, what appeared to be an unretouched photo of Khloe Kardashian began circulating, and her PR team allegedly put forth great effort to wipe it from the internet.

Now, Kim Kardashian is facing allegations of a Photoshop fail after her new SKIMS commercial went viral on TikTok.

SKIMS has received criticism in the past for claiming to be for “everybody,” but including confusing sizing information that left one woman feeling like “the Pillsbury Doughboy.”

In a clip that aired on national television, Kim was shown lying down on the screen wearing her shapewear brand’s new underwear collection. Fans noticed something unusual about the footage.

“Who approved of this editing?” TikTok user @alexkelly2015 wrote in a post that has now been liked more than 2 million times.

In the video, Kim says “it bounces right back” as she pulls her underwear away from her leg and lets it snap back into place. What didn’t snap back into place, though, was her fingers, which appeared to be exceptionally wavy-looking in the video.

“You know what bounces right back? The finger after it completely distorts,” the TikTok user said in her post.

TikTok users expressed their dissatisfaction with the apparent editing job.

“They refuse to do anything natural, huh…” one user said, referencing the Kardashians’ past alleged Photoshop incidents.

“So sad that they create these body issue problems and then complain,” another wrote.

“It must be exhausting to keep that up,” a third commented.

TikTok user @residualdata, who called out apparent Photoshop on Kylie Jenner’s Instagram in April, explained in a post that editing images heavily is not a victimless crime.

She went on to explain “social comparison theory,” which suggests that people often compare themselves to others in ways in which objective measures do not exist. This makes non-celebrity women strive for an impossible goal, which can be harmful in many ways.

The Kardashians may be subjected to unrealistic beauty standards themselves, but it’s hard to refute the fact they played a role in creating those standards in the first place.
