Kevin Costner's Comments About 'Yellowstone' Cause a Major Stir on Instagram

Kevin Costner is on the same wavelength as Yellowstone fans.

With less than two months until the Paramount Network drama returns with new season 5 episodes, the actor is connecting with folks on social media about the show’s popularity. On September 9, the Field of Dreams star resurfaced an Entertainment Tonight interview in which he credited Taylor Sheridan for his “smart” writing. In the short Instagram video, Kevin touches on his character, John, as well as Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser)’s strong dialogue that keeps storylines interesting.

“I think a lot of people want to say what Beth gets to say. A lot of people want to get to do what Rip gets to do,” he told the outlet. “And a lot of people wish they could say some of the things [John says] when it seems like there’s a lot on the line … Taylor’s written some smart dialogue.”

When he asked fans if they also felt “this way about Yellowstone,” many immediately rushed over to the Instagram comments section to share their thoughts.

“Agree 110%, people need to say it like it is,” one person wrote. “I come from a long line of strong women who say what they mean and mean exactly what they say. I just THOUGHT I had no filter, until Taylor wrote Beth!!! She's on a whole other plane! 😂🙌🔥,” another added. “That is exactly right, Kevin! The dialogue on Yellowstone is RIGHT! Really smart of Taylor Sheridan. Great actors doing a fantastic job with these characters. I simply adore John Dutton and Rip Wheeler,” a different viewer said.

So, what exactly can the Yellowstone fandom expect to see in season 5? According to Variety, the new episodes will kick off with John campaigning to become the next governor of Montana. While Kevin didn’t go into specific details about what that will look like, he did tease that it won’t be an easy journey. “Politics [are] about to overrun him,” he told ET.

As for whether Jamie (Wes Bentley) will work his way back to John’s good graces, it doesn’t sound promising. “The show would [probably] end. There’d be nothing to play against,” he said before revealing that he doesn’t know “where the story’s going.”

Regardless, no matter the Dutton family’s trajectory, there will definitely be passionate dialogue accompanying it.
