Jurgen Klopp details how Liverpool can solve goal drought

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool need to be “close to perfection” this season as he bids to solve the champions’ recent goal drought.

The Reds have failed to score in three consecutive Premier League games with Manchester United shutting them out last Sunday at Anfield.

But the German remains relaxed and insists the goals will return, with a particular focus on being “greedy” and making good decisions, starting with Burnley at Anfield on Thursday.

“[We need to be] close to perfection,” Klopp said. “There is no perfect season it is just dealing with the situation and the amount of games.

“All the teams had a dip here and there. Some sorted it. I understand the need to talk about it but we can't change it in a minute.

“You can imagine the day is 24 hours and we think about a lot of stuff. Most of the things the public thinks of we do as well but we have to be calm.

“No catastrophe, just not perfect. Need to be as good as we can be. It's about the whole team. Goals are not flying in, so we have to work on it.

“We will score again. Stones at City, scores 3, cannot explain it. Need to stay calm, greedy and make good decisions and the situation will change. That is it.”

The Reds will hope to close the gap at the top of the table as they bid to defend their title with three points against the Clarets.

The gap could be six points by kick-off at Anfield, while Klopp will also be conscious of this weekend’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Manchester United, with Joel Matip on the brink of returning, though Diogo Jota is set to miss another couple of weeks.

“So first, Joel is in full training and we will make a decision. He trained normally,” Klopp added.

“Diogo is a few weeks away. He will not be available for the next one or two games. He needs time.

“How much I miss him is not important. I am not allowed to miss him. He is not there and we deal with it.”
