Yahoo Finance Jose Mourinho: 'Doesn't make any sense' for Spurs to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is looking for a new place to play. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like he’ll be reuniting with his old boss.
New Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho told the media Monday it “doesn’t make any sense” to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the January transfer window.
“Amazing player, amazing guy, but I would say no. I would say no chances. We have the best striker in England. We have one of the top two, three strikers in the world. Doesn't make any sense. A striker of Zlatan's dimension obviously, in his late 30s, but still a striker that can play in any club in the world, it doesn’t make sense to come to a club where we have Harry Kane.”
While Spurs doesn’t boast the attack of, say, Liverpool or Manchester City (who can?), scoring goals hasn’t really been their problem. And Mourinho is correct in implying Ibrahimovic would fill most of the same roles Kane already does, plus Kane is 12 years younger.
Ibrahimovic would likely be the backup at best, trotted out for super-sub moments and League Cup fixtures rather than the marquee matches he’s accustomed to.
He also sent out a cryptic tweet early Tuesday, which seemed to indicate he’s thinking about signing with Hammarby in his native Sweden:

It’s not your typical rumor mongering to connect the dots here, though. Mourinho is looking to revamp his team after taking the Spurs job last week, while Ibrahimovic bid farewell to the Los Angeles Galaxy two weeks ago after two seasons.
Ibrahimovic has played three seasons under Mourinho, one at Inter Milan and two with Manchester United. He scored 48 goals those seasons, and he would have scored more if injuries hadn’t ravaged his 2017-18 campaign.
Moreover, Mourinho once said Ibrahimovic is better than Cristiano Ronaldo. So yeah, there’s some serious mutual respect here.
But for now, it sounds like that’s all there will be.
