Jogger makes gruesome discovery on morning run

A woman on her regular morning jog has stumbled across as decomposing human head near a suburban road in Florida.

The woman was taking her usual route on Tuesday (local time) around 7am, when she spotted the head in a grassed area underneath an overpass, according to CNN.

The remains were so decomposed Pittsburgh police said they have been unable to identify the person’s age, gender or ethnicity.

Police set up crime scene where a human head was found next to a road.

It’s believed the incident occurred in the 48 hours before the jogger made the discovery as she told police she had been running along the same area on Sunday and hadn’t seen anything.

Homicide detectives are now searching the wooded area near the intersection of 38th Avenue South and 31st Street South in St. Petersburg.

Police said they don't believe the person died at this location.

"There's no active crime scene," Public Information Officer Yolanda Fernandez told CNN.

With no surveillance cameras in the nearby area, Police have asked the public for help and say they have already received “a few tips” they are tracking down.

The local Police department is currently searching through missing persons files to attempt to identify the person, while a medical examiner will try to determine the time of death and how long the head was at the location.
