Jennie Finch looks for MLB stars she can strike out on 'Old Baseball Cards'

Mike Oz
·3-min read

Even with her playing days behind her, Jennie Finch remains one of the most famous and most decorated softball players of all-time. She’s done it all — won the women’s College World Series, starred on a gold-medal-winning Olympic team and been inducted into the USA Softball Hall of Fame.

She knows her way around a diamond, and she’s proven on more than one occasion she can hang with — and even upstage — some of MLB’s best hitters. Back when she was a host of “This Week In Baseball,” she had a regular segment where she struck out MLB hitters.

And on this all-new episode of “Old Baseball Cards” — Yahoo Sports’ baseball-card driven nostalgia trip — we find someone who Finch is pretty sure she struck out. We also talk about Jim Abbott, Bo Jackson and one of her favorite Los Angeles Dodgers players as a kid.

Finch joined us on behalf of MLB’s Scotts Field Refurbishment. Earlier this week, MLB announced three organizations that would get more than $200,000 in repairs and upgrades. The winners were: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, the City of Memphis Parks and Neighborhoods and the Oakland Athletics Community Fund.

On this episode, we opened up 1990 Donruss and 1999 Fleer Ultra. We finish up, like always, with a trade, so once you’ve watched, place your vote here:

If you’re new to our show, we open old packs of cards with baseball players, coaches and famous fans. The cards aren’t worth much, but the stories and nostalgia they inspire are priceless. If you liked this episode, there are plenty more below and on the Yahoo Sports YouTube channel.

If you liked this episode, we’d recommend you watch our episodes with Ryan Howard, Randy Johnson and Joe Girardi.
