Yahoo Finance Jamie Carragher says Liverpool must ‘do something big’ in the transfer market with lack of goals a key problem
Jamie Carragher watched his former club lose 1-0 to Chelsea in the Premier League on Thursday night and suggested Liverpool’s big issue is not defensive injuries, but a lack of ability to score goals.
The reigning champions were top scorers in the league until recently, but in a run of five losses from their last six league games they have netted just four goals.
It’s now seven without a win at Anfield in the league for the Reds, who have dropped to seventh in the table as a result.

There was rarely any moment where the home side looked like getting back into the match, with just one shot on target all match.
“Goals [are the problem], massively. They don’t look like scoring,” he said on Sky Sports.
“The games they haven’t scored in, you don’t feel they’re going to score. Even late on [at Anfield on Thursday], it felt like it needed to be a Chelsea mistake [for Liverpool to score].
“At the moment you’re not sure where the goals are going to come from.”
After dissecting the substitution of Mohamed Salah, which Carragher felt was a surprise which hampered the team late on, the former defender suggested that rather than another goalscorer coming into the team, it was a supply line which was required.
With the Reds among those whose pressing statistics are down for the season, an alternative source of creativity could be beneficial, feels the pundit, with this being a more pressing issue than the list of centre-backs out injured.
“Even with Salah on the pitch Liverpool didn’t look like scoring and that’s a bigger problem than what’s going on at the back. Looking at the front six not looking dangerous enough, it’s a real worry going forward.
“They need to do something big in the transfer market in terms of bringing someone in to score goals.
“Klopp says his [team’s] pressing is better than any No. 10, but Liverpool almost need a No. 10 because the pressing’s not there. They haven’t got anyone between the lines to play that final pass. Without the pressing quality to create chances, they haven’t got anyone to make the pass.”
